Driving
Poor driving posture is the reason for most pain caused whilst driving.
If you drive to work, do the following to improve your posture:
- Sit with your back firmly against the seat. If there is no lumbar support then use a small cushion or lumbar roll.
- The seat should be adjusted so that your arms are roughly at 90° and you are not reaching for the steering wheel. The height of the seat should allow your knees to be slightly higher than your hips.
- Adjust the central mirror whilst in an upright posture, this will also help you become aware of any slumping.
- Adjust the headrest so that there is no more than 3 - 4 inches gap between head and the headrest.
- On a long journey (more than 1 hour), stop and walk around for 5 minutes.
