Public educational talks

The Putney Clinic of Physical Therapy strongly believes that prevention is the best way to stay injury-free. With this is mind, we run regular public educational talks, covering a wide variety of subjects relating to health and fitness. Public talks are open to all and are free of charge (unless otherwise stated). We also run periodic a selection of monthly health and fitness workshops

Introduction to Hypnobirthing
  • Title: Introduction to Hypnobirthing: A birth without pain?
  • Date: Saturday 3rd June, 1-1:30pm

In conjunction with our partners at Yoga Mama Wellness, we are holding a free introductory talk on hypnobirthing on Saturday 3rd June (1 – 2pm). This talk will offer you the opportunity to meet our resident hypnobirthing expert, Dr Stacy Gandolfi. Come along and discover what hypnobirthing is, and find out whether it is right for you.

During the session Dr Gandolfi will provide an overview of:

  • What hypnobirthing is
  • How it is beneficial for you, your birthing partner and your baby
  • The scientific evidence underpinning this approach

At the end, you will also have the chance to put your questions to Dr Gandolfi. She will offer information and advice so that you can decide if this course is suitable for you.

Cost and booking

The Physical and Psychological Effects of Stress
  • Title: The Physical and Psychological Effects of Stress

Stress affects us psychologically and physically. Dermot Burke, Senior Physiotherapist at the Putney Clinic, and Fiona Worthington, our resident Cognitive Behavioural Coach and Clinical Hypnotherapist, will be offering suggestions to ease the symptoms and advice on what to do to take better care of yourself.


In the talk, we will look at topics such as: the physiological effects of stress and the biopsychosocial model; how stress influences pain and behaviour; physiological effects of exercise and movement, and studies linking exercise, cognitive control and stress/health. We will also internal and external stressors;  stress triggers and there will be a simple exercise/movement tips and a relaxing group hypnosis/breathing session.

Free Triathlon Seminar: Training from Inside Out

Are you looking to take up the Triathlon or another endurance sport? Perhaps you have competed previously and are in search of top tips for your next event?

Endurance Nutritional Therapist Fleur Borrelli (BSc Nut Med BA Hons MBant NTCC) will explain how making simple changes to your diet and eating patterns can reduce reliance on high carb foods and energy drinks, while also making you a better fat burner. She will also tell you what you can do in order to optimise your inflammatory and immune responses. In addition to this  you will learn why a one size fits all approach doesn’t work for everyone.

To round off the evening, triathletes Heather Sellars (of Team GB) and David Hemmings (of Velosport) will share motivation, experiences, advice and stories from inside the sport.
